Abundance: Can There Be Too Much of a Good Thing?

I love all that I love, but I still feel the need to step away, be unplugged, to pause, to be alone. I don’t enjoy getting everything I want and I am easily overwhelmed by too much of anything that I love.

Abundance has a beautiful resonance to it. It is the focus of many peoples’ desires and affirmations—to be abundant and to have an infinite supply of everything they want.

Indeed our world and lives are full of wonders and the many gifts of creation. But what happens to us when there is simply too much of everything saturating our senses? For many of us there is a point of too much abundance and this can lead to feeling overwhelmed and excessively stressed.

It is difficult for many of us to reconcile how there can be too much of what is so good! Are we ungrateful? Is there something wrong with us?

Too much of anything can be too much: food, companionship, love, oxygen, news, stuff! All of it! Nothing is as precious or as nourishing when there is too much.

How do we savor all that is good in our lives and yet honor our need for balance? Discernment. Boundaries. Careful attention to our emotions and energy. When we feel drained, we much turn it off, tune it down, shut it out, rest and restore.

We should enjoy and rejoice in the bounty of our world by being in tuned with it and not overwhelmed by it.
