Mountaintop Wisdom: We’re Wired for the Climb

wired for the climb, resilience through challenge, strong, brave, Karyn Shanks, Karyn Shanks MD, Heal, Nine Domains of Healing

What are the best solutions when life gets tough?

Stop our lives? Hang out on the mountain top? Get a divorce? Find a new job? Send the kids to boarding school?

Hmmm… sounds tempting, doesn’t it?

Yah, I want to get rid of the friction too sometimes.

I want to go straight to the bliss.

But what if I told you we thrive the most when we’re challenged? That we figure things out and grow our…

“Despair is Hubris”

hope, faith, optimism, heal, healing, empowerment, Karyn Shanks, Karyn Shanks MD

Not my words. These are the words of Stephen Cobert, host of The Late Show and creator of the iconic Stephen Cobert Show.

He was asked the question, “what do you do to stay hopeful?”

His reply was:

The Upside of Our Uncertain Lives

uncertainty, change, navigate change, how to change, wellness, empowerment, self-healing, self-empowerment, courage, be brave

“The suspense is killing me.”

“I’m absolutely certain…”

“Because that’s how it’s always been.”

These words roll right off our tongues–unconsciously–because we’re wired and trained to resist uncertainty. Honestly, very little unsettles me more. I’m a bit squeamish about not knowing what happens next.

But we can go to extremes to “know for sure:”

  • By creating stories that just aren’t true.
  • By…
