Sometimes we’ve just got to rest. Sometimes we’ve just got to go off grid. Sometimes we’ve just got to do nothing.
That’s what I’ve been doing this past week and it’s felt so dang good!
I turned my book into my editor last week… I was so ready to hand it off, so needing to disengage to put my brain somewhere else after the four month marathon of editing, following a four year creative gestation…
Book writing has been a wonderful and exhilarating experience, but I’ve been working with such dedication. Some would say obsession—a mad woman!
By the time I hit “send” to my editor I was spent. Not a creative neuron left firing. It was time to let it go.
For the first couple of days I was confused… I’d forgotten how to have a day off. How does one do this? Then my son turned me onto a Netflix series he’d enjoyed. And I started binge watching! I totally get it now—losing oneself in a story that goes on and on… While it was awkward at first—those first couple of episodes were like just dipping my toes in the water. Shouldn’t I be getting back to work?
Pretty soon I was up to my waist. Then up to my neck as I plowed through two seasons in two days! (Want to know what I’ve been watching?)
And no writing, no social media, no studying. Just play. Off the grid.
Guess what happened? On about the third day of doing next to nothing, I felt my energy rise. I felt that old swell of excitement and enthusiasm as I started my days—for life, for what I have, and for what’s to come. I needed that rest for this to happen. I had to unplug. Do nothing. Get lost in someone else’s story.
Thank you for the downtime. Thank you for the entertainment. Thank you for letting me take this time to rest.
p.s. Big Energy Recovery is coming. My editor has his hands all over it. I can’t wait to see what it morphs into as we hit this home stretch. I’m so grateful to all of my clients (over more than a quarter of a century!) for the profound lessons they have taught me about what energy means (Big Energy!) and what we have to do to find it, nourish it, and protect it.
If you haven’t seen it yet, take a peek at one of the concepts we’ll explore in Big Energy Recovery—sign up to receive my free e-book, Big Energy: How We Bravely Reclaim Our Health, Our Potential, Our Lives—It’s All In Our Stories.
