Are you like me—always behind, never quite there? Deadlines looming. Elated to make them (when I do). But feeling constantly pressured, and time-deficient?
Hmmm… Pondering this a lot lately. Because, you know, it gets overwhelming.
Realization: I’m in charge. I’m my own boss. I set all my own deadlines.
First thought about that: how lucky I am!
Next thought: why do I do that to myself? The only thing in my way, driving my dissatisfaction, cracking the whip, setting arbitrary deadlines: is ME.
Being a practical person, I ask, “so, what’s the solution?”
Answer: Stop. Stop comparing, Stop competing. Stop judging. Stop perfection. Stop being in a hurry. Stop not being enough. Stop being behind.
Sure, set goals and have dreams. Work hard. Believe in infinite potential.
But flow more. Allow the dream to morph into something unexpected. Trust that it’s meaningful and headed in a direction that is true and important, without the taskmaster scrutinizing every detail. And not because others think so, or it’s “on time.”
Decision: I focus on the ideas, the dreams, the aspirations. I plan the projects and set goals. I show up for the work.
But I let the timeline unfold leaving wiggle room for surprises, for playtime, and the possibility of a better way. I let go of some of the strictness and structure (that I love). I soften.
Have a beautiful day.
